Group Managing Director
Alex Goodfellow is Group Managing Director - Stewart Milne Timber Systems and sits on the Stewart Milne Group main board. He has over 30 years’ experience in the construction and house building sector having started his career with house builder Walker Homes.
He joined Stewart Milne Homes in 1999 as Technical Manager, following his role as Chief Architect at Beazer Homes. In 2001 he took responsibility for the technical department of Stewart Milne Timber Systems, where as Technical Director he led the development of new products, designed for the volume house building market. In 2003, he was appointed Managing Director where he spearheaded development of safe crane erection across Scottish industry, that subsequently became industry standard. In 2006, he was appointed Managing Director of Stewart Milne Homes Central Scotland, developing and leading the business strategy to significant growth.
Having held several senior positions within the company, in 2011, he joined the main board, taking overall responsibility for the expansion of Stewart Milne Timber Systems. He plays an important strategic role in the growth of the business and is Chair of their leadership group, driving innovation, growth and improvements.
In his role, he also plays a central part in fostering effective and innovative collaborations between the company and major UK house builders as well as stimulating discussion on the use of offsite construction methods to alleviate the skills and labour issues facing the industry.
He is a board member of the Structural Timber Association and recently was appointed to the board of the CTI (Confederation of Timber Industries).
A Non-executive Group Director and Non-executive Chairman of the Timber Systems Division, Hugh has been with the Company since we began in 1975.
He is a past Chairman of TRADA and UKTFA. A Chartered Structural Engineer, Hugh has outstanding industry knowledge and is highly respected by his peers.
Craig joined the Timber systems board as Financial Director in 2011 having previously held a number of financial positions within Timber Systems, Stewart Milne Developments and Group Finance.
Craig is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, having gained associate membership in 2004.
He started his career in the oil gas industry in 1997 where he held various financial and management accounting positions working both in the UK and internationally before joining the Group in 2004.
Having served an apprenticeship in joinery and then graduating with an Honours Degree in Building Engineering & Management, David joined Timber Systems in 1997.
He has since focused his career in Timber Frame technology. In that time he’s assisted many of our clients’ projects across the UK through his project management, commercial and timber frame technical expertise.
David joined the Board in October 2007.
Mike Perry, formerly of ROK PLC, is based at the Stewart MIlne Group's Witney office and brings more than twenty years’ business management experience to the role.
With a strong track record in guiding businesses towards greater profits and increased efficiency, Mike will develop and lead the new business sales team to deliver its ambitious UK-wide business development plan. He has experience in both the timber frame and broader construction industries, having previously held director-level roles at Llewellyn Timber Engineering and ROK PLC.
SMTS Ltd are delighted to announce the appointment of Rod Allan to the position of Operations Director. This is a newly created role encompassing Procurement, Design, Planning and Manufacturing.
Rod brings with him a wealth of experience in the development and implementation of business strategy with a particular focus on the deployment of technology solutions and lean methodology.
Most recently an Executive Director with Havelock Europa Plc, the interiors, furniture manufacturer and contractor, Rod also spent 12 years as a board director of Metsawood UK Ltd including 6 as Managing Director. Rod worked internationally with both Havelock and Metsa and with spells at Scottish and Newcastle and as a consultant with Quattro Consult in Edinburgh Rod has a very rounded experience to bring to SMTS.
During his time at Metsawood Rod served on the board of the Centre for Timber Engineering and Edinburgh Napier University and whilst at Havelock was active within the CBI.
