The UK building industry “needs more offsite construction CPD” says leading build systems manufacturer
The UK construction industry will benefit from increased opportunities for professionals to develop their knowledge of offsite construction, according to John Smith of Stewart Milne Timber Systems.
Offsite construction offers the industry an opportunity to increase output and performance standards through enhanced speed of build, reduced onsite costs, and flexible capacity.
Head of Technical, John Smith, believes that as more professionals are given the opportunity to understand offsite construction’s advantages and the latest developments which might assist them, the industry as a whole will benefit.
John Smith said: “Offsite construction is a modern, energy efficient and cost effective way of building everything from homes to hospitals and office buildings. It offers increased performance standards with reduced onsite costs and less reliance on variables such as good weather to complete a building project on time and within budget.
“The more we can educate construction industry professionals on the various ways offsite manufacture can enhance their projects, the more the industry will benefit from this streamlined, energy efficient and cost effective approach to construction.”
To contribute to this, Stewart Milne Timber Systems is offering a free CPD session at its Witney facility on 23 September 2015. Taking place at the company’s advanced facility in Witney, it will look at the latest developments in offsite manufacture and its benefits for projects of all types.
The CPD session will be hosted in partnership with the Structural Timber Association (STA) and is free of charge to house builders, quantity surveyors, construction managers, directors, and affordable housing providers. It carries official CPD-accreditation for Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) members and will include a CAD demonstration of timber frame design and scheduling, as well as an opportunity to learn about and inspect the raw materials.
As the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of build systems, Stewart Milne Timber Systems has some of the most advanced facilities in the UK, with its two offsite manufacturing factories based in Westhill near Aberdeen, and Witney near Oxford.
John Smith said: “We believe that offsite construction has an important part to play in shaping the UK’s construction industry in coming years, and will continue offering CPD opportunities such as this in future. We expect to see similar offers from the rest of the industry as more professionals begin to employ offsite construction methods.”
