COVID-19 Stewart Milne Group Statement
The safety of our colleagues, subcontractors, suppliers, customers and the public is paramount. As a family company with a proud 40-year heritage, we are making sure that health, well-being and safety of our families takes precedence in these worrying times.
It is for this reason, and with a heavy heart, that we immediately complied with the government advice on Tuesday 24th of March to suspend all operations across Stewart Milne Group. We have closed our offices and factories and are in the process of working to safely and securely shut down our construction sites as quickly as humanly possible.
Our current focus is shutting down our sites safely, and while there will be personnel present on sites this week, I would like to reassure you that they are there to comply with our legal duties – which are to hand over homes to our customers who are moving imminently, to ensure they have a safe place to stay during this uncertain time, and to assure that all structures comply with HSE standards before we close sites completely.
Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to protect those workers involved in shutting our sites. They are following public health guidelines including safe social distancing and good hygiene practices. We must acknowledge their efforts and commitment in completing this work as quickly and safely as possible.
I understand that our decision will have implications for our employees, subcontractors and our supplier network, who have all received separate communications, and would like to thank you all for your understanding and perseverance during this unsettling time.
I would like to reiterate that we do not intend to postpone our operations for any longer than we need to. However, it is our responsibility to protect our workers, the public, and limit the spread of this virus.
Lastly, I would like to send a message of solidarity from everyone in our business to families who have been affected by COVID-19, and our brave and relentless emergency service and NHS workers who are on the frontline every day.
Now, more than ever, we need to protect our health service and help to save lives.
Stay safe and take care.
