Larkhill Housing Scheme: Radical Collaboration

As part of Lovell’s regeneration development, they were awarded a contract by the MoD to construct over 900 homes across three sites in Salisbury Plain – Ludgershall, Bulford and Larkhill – by May 2020.  They contracted Stewart Milne Timber Systems and Taylor Lane Timber Frame to work across these sites, each working on one site individually and – in a most unusual move – working together to complete the 450 houses on the Larkhill site.  Completion of this project took collaboration at all levels on a constant basis, from design and offsite manufacture to on-site build.  Working to a short build time both companies stepped up to increase capacity and output, currently set to complete two months earlier than originally projected.

This great success has demonstrated what can be achieved with an offsite manufactured timber frame solution and a collaborative working relationship with all partners and suppliers.  The success of the project is also attributable to the professionalism, focus and dedication of the project teams and with the client Lovell who’s understanding of requirements and collaborative attitude helped make the development an outstanding achievement.
